Dear Colleague, Click here to download the application
The Los Angeles City Teachers’ Mathematics Association (LACTMA) is planning its thirty-second annual conference to be held on March 21, 2009. It gives us great pleasure to extend an invitation to you to present at this year's conference. The theme of the conference is Empowering All Learners for Success in Mathematics. Our conference is focused on deepening teachers’ mathematical content knowledge as well as strategies that help all students succeed. We will feature collaboration efforts to develop lessons that engage all students in meaningful mathematics, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic background. We will also focus on helping teachers recognize the misconceptions students hold that lead to errors. Finally, our last goal is to highlight instruction that differentiates for the learning needs of students by integrating content and strategies that support all students. We, again this year, are following the California Mathematics Council’s lead and asking that presenters explicitly address those standards described by the Content Standards for California Public Schools or the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in workshop descriptions and presentations. For example, a title such as Place Value to Meet NCTM Standards or Using Technology to Enhance Algebraic Thinking clearly indicates addressing standards through quality instruction, whereas a title such as Having Fun With Place Value is not an explicit reference to the standards. For more information about these, please refer to the links listed below.* If you are presenting a workshop related to a commercial product, your presentation must focus on mathematical content and strategies, not on selling your product. You must provide the participants with all the materials that they will need to be able to implement the workshop content. You must also indicate on the speaker form the name of the company you are representing. Note that participants cannot be required to make a purchase in order to use the ideas presented. All workshops during the conference are 75 minutes. At special request, workshops can be extended to 150 minutes. The number of participants at any session is limited to approximately 45 - 65. However, rooms that accommodate a larger audience are available. As a presenter, you will receive your choice of a $50 honorarium or $25 plus membership to our organization, or you can donate your honorarium to LACTMA. In addition, we will provide you with free registration for the conference and up to $50 to $65 reimbursement per session for materials depending on the size of the room. We appreciate your dedication to the improvement of mathematics education. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Our speaker books will close on January 30th, and all applications must be received by then. Sincerely, Ana Batres Ron Bibb *For more information refer to the following: |
